The images of the US Capital in siege in an attempt to stop the certification of the election is difficult to forget. The horrifying thought that a peaceful transition in power had failed is seared into our memory.
As Trump promoted the fantasy of a rigged election and then encouraged people to subvert democracy — how this is not treason, I still don’t understand, we have Ken Calvert in the cheering section.
Yet Ken Calvert, representing CA42, voted to support Trump’s imagined conspirators to that something was amiss with the election. What could be more insulting to California but Calvert’s failure to speak for truth to the narcissist who’d rather destroy democracy than lose the presidency.
This scorched Earth approach to our election is shocking to most Americans, but also the world, who have held up the US as an example of democracy.
And now the final insult. Donald Trumpet has endorsed Ken Calvert for another forgettable incumbent with a lousy record. Calvert who has regularly undermined any attempt at thinking about the public good, that might include better health care, reduced insulin costs, addressing the real costs of climate change, and even the value of our clean water.
